our story

The Johnson’s Hearing Center tradition began more than 35 years ago, when Ralph E. Johnson committed his skills to helping others as a hearing instrument specialist, licensed in Illinois and Missouri. He and his wife, Erline, who took on the responsibilities of secretary, worked together to provide their expertise to the Riverbend. Johnson’s Hearing Center moved to its current location at 975 East Edwardsville Road in Wood River in early 1992.

In 1988, Johnson’s daughter, Barbara Well joined her father’s business as an Illinois certified hearing instrument specialist. Tiffany Well, Barb’s daughter, has worked in the office for over two years and is also licensed to sell hearing aids. Barb’s other daughter, Jennifer, also works at the office as a licensed hearing specialist.

	Barbara (Johnson) Well, BC-HIS Board-Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist Barbara, the Johnson's daughter, has been working in the hearing healthcare field for over 20 years and became a member of the Illinois Hearing Society shortly after. In 1992, she obtained her Board Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences and has been a member of the International Hearing Society for 15 years.
	Tiffany (Well) Jordan, HIS Hearing Instrument Specialist Tiffany, the Johnson's granddaughter (Barbara's youngest daughter) began working at the office several years ago alongside Mr. Johnson, who taught her about hearing aids while she worked to get her dispensing license. She has been a licensed specialist since 2007, and is currently working towards her Board Certification.
	Erline Johnson Owner Erline, wife of Ralph E. Johnson, began doing the paperwork and answering the phone for Mr. Johnson over 35 years ago. She continues to work at the office, ensuring that the business is run with the values set forth by Mr. Johnson.
	Jennifer (Well) Volle, HIS Hearing Instrument Specialist Jennifer, Barbara's oldest daughter, has her degree in computer programming and currently does the bookkeeping, advertising and computer work for the office. She is also licensed as a hearing instrument dispenser.
	Ann T. Laney, MS-CCCA Clinical Audiologist Ann, a longtime family friend, has been doing hearing testing at our office for almost 20 years. She also tests and dispenses hearing aids at an ENT doctor's office.
